The Best Revenge is not to be like your Enemy

Yet another simple but intriguing saying by one of the great practitioner of Stoicism, Marcus Aurelius.

The best revenge is to not be like your enemy. As simple as it is to recite in your mind and put it in you insta bio, it is actually as hard to program it into your subconscious.

YES,subconsciuos. Because this principle is something you have to apply consciously when you’re not aware of your conscience.

Not to be like your enemy, huh? Already sounds uncomforting. But,let me tell you about a interesting (a little twisted) way you can actually enjoy doing this.

Trust me, it saved me from being possessed by devil.haha.

So what you have to do is,trick you mind a little and make it conscious of what it already knows.

Remember the moment when you lost it all, when someone did you wrong, hurt your loved ones, humiliated you. You may now have been triggered right? Noone like to remember such moments. Now ask yourself a question and be honest ‘WHAT IS YOUR PRIMARY REACTION?’ You would want to do the same to your abuser or atleast wish the same for them. And there’s nothing wrong with that as that’s what a normal person would do.

However, let me tell you something secretive:Any kind of negative energy will do you harm, whether you choose it or not. Negativity engulfs your energy rapidly like a bat out of hell. So, would really choose negative reaction to any circumstances if you have a choice?

So, what the hell are we supposed to do?

Search for the light. By “light”,I meant the oppurtunity for yourself to be the WINNER. And there’s always light out there no matter how darkening the situation is. Because light shines only because it is surrounded by darkness.

For instance, when someone steps on you foot, don’t you react harshly but instead smile and go your way (even if it was intented). By doing this you are declaring to your opponent that you can’t be shaken, your grace can’t be shaken. And that’s how you WIN lousy disturbance as such. Don’t ever give someone else the power to control your reaction.

Another way to think about this is, you can be grateful for evil things, as you now have a chance to be the GOOD.

However you take this Stoic Principle, be sure to craves it into your mind and never lose to the evilness of you enemy. The best revenge is to not be like your enemy.
